Candle molds come in a number of shapes and sizes and are usually either metal, plastic, or a rubbery latex material. It is important to decide what type of candle you want to make before you buy a candle mold. This is because some candles, like rolled beeswax candles, don't require a mold, and others, typically gel and jar candles, will stay in their container to be burned. If you want to make a pillar candle or votive you will need a metal candle mold. You can find them as simple cylinders or squares. They also come in fancier shapes such as stars, hearts and half moons. Candle molds are fairly easy to work with. They have a hole in the bottom for the wick, that has to be sealed with mold sealer. There are a number of candle mold sealer, Jiffy Wicker is a reusable set that cleaner and easier to use than traditional mold sealers. You'll also need Kemamide which is a mold release agent. Kemamide makes it easy to get the candle out of the mold once it has set. The advantage of using a plastic candle mold is that they come in a lot more interesting shapes and it is often easier to get a candle out of a plastic mold once the candle is set. You can find plastic candle molds in almost an form you can think of, Christmas trees, animals, balls, bells, gingerbread houses.
