By Alia KubeThe tradition and Function of Candle SnuffersCandle snuffers are a classic accessory to candle burning. At one time they were very common in middle class homes, used to snuff out candles, but also as a mantle decoration. They were also used to put out candles that were to far out of reach to be blown out. Now a days candle snuffers are not as common, but they still add decorative charm and can be very functional. Hinged candle snuffers are very useful in putting out long burned column candles that have developed a deep well. To use a candle snuffer you simply hold it over the flame wait a few seconds until the flame has died and then take the snuffer away. One of the benefits of using a snuffer is that there is no smoke. Often when a candle is blown out smoke and soot will rise from the candle wick. Another benefit is that you can avoid any wax being splattered on you furniture. Often if you blow a little too hard the pool of wax around the wick will also be blown and end up splattering on your furniture, creating more clean up work as a result of burning your candles. Aside from the functionality of candle snuffers they can also be very decorative. Make from wood, brass or pewter, they can have decorative designs and an elegant finish. They are a simple accessory, but one that has been around for many years.
