Votives are the simplest and most elegant of all candles. They can also be found in almost any color or scent and made out of every kind of wax, whether it be soy, gel, beeswax or most commonly, paraffin wax. It is also common to find votives that are aromatherapy candles, scented with essential oils that can relax and clam the body, mind and spirit.
Votives are some of the smallest candles you can find. They make a simple statement of elegance and class when placed around your home. Beautiful arrangements can be made using two or three votives in matching votive holders, or on a glass plate surrounded by potpourri. A word of caution, never burn votives or leave them unattended when they are near flammable objects and they should always be burned in a heat resistant container that will be able to collect the wax as they burn.
Votives are also commonly used in candle sconces because they are smaller. The delicate light of votives make them excellent for creating an intimate mood. Set up a couple candle lanterns outside with votives, for a quiet evening meal or just to sip wine. Let your creativity take over and remember that starting with simplicity can lead you to the most interesting ideas.
