By Alia KubeWhich type of candle works best for wedding candlesWhen buying wedding candles, whether they are for the ceremony or reception, there are two important things to keep in mind, one you are going to need a lot of them and two you don't want to fuss about them during the event. Choosing simple wedding candles with proper candle holders will give you one less thing to worry about on your special day. Taper candles are classic, simple and cheap when bought in large quantities, but the are more prone to dripping than other types of wedding candles. If you want to use tapers make sure that they will be burned away from drafts. There are to precautions you can take, one is to have a hurricane around them, this will protect them from drafts and help to stop dripping, or you can use bobeches. Bobeches collect wax drips so that you table cloth doesn't get wax on it. Other options for wedding candles are votives, jar candles, floating candles or oil lamps. All of these candles are self-contained in their holders, so you wont have to worry about wax dripping or getting on the table cloths. The holders for these candles can be personalized and when bought in large quantities it is often possible to get a discount. These will be the most hassle free wedding candles and though their burning times will vary they should burn for at least 5 hours, long enough for an evening reception. You can also get fancy, decorative candle holders for these candles, so although they are simple candles you can dress them up and use them on the head table and they will look just as elegant as a taper or pillar candle. The final option is pillar wedding candles. Pillar candles can be expensive when you are buying a large quantity of them and they can be more work then you expect. Since they need to be blown out once they have burned to the edge of the candle and they can't just be left to burn all night, pillar candles are best for shorter events, for example the ceremony, or as accent candles. Having two or three pillar wedding candles on the head table or in a special candle center piece is wonderful and decorative, but to use pillar candles on every table is not a good idea.
